Students in grades 1-3 will be assigned homework Monday through Monday through Thursday. Language Arts homework is usually a spelling activity as well as ten minutes of reading. If I have your child for math, he or she may also bring home a math activity sheet reinforcing a skill that has been learned in class. Assignments should not take more than 10-15 minutes to complete. If your child is taking longer to complete my homework assignments, please let me know.
Because your child is practicing a skill already learned in class, he will be able to complete homework assignments independently. However, if you are able to sit with your child as he does homework, it gives him or her an opportunity to show off what he or she knows and allows you to see what skills we are working on in class. If your child tells you he is unable to do his homework because he doesn’t know what to do or how to do it, please send in a note with the homework the next day. If your child is ever unable to do homework due to a situation beyond his control (loss of electricity, illness, family emergency etc), please send me a note and I will excuse the missed assignment and allow your child to either complete the assignment in class (if time allows) or turn it in the next day.
If your child chooses not to complete homework or is unable to complete the assignment because it was left at school, it will be unexcused. Please note that your child is still responsible for completing homework even if you are not at home to supervise because, as stated above, all homework assignments are able to be completed independently.
